The Canal and River Trust are in Partnership with the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Branch of the BNA. Our local north notts members have been undertaking wildlife surveys on sections of the Chesterfield Canal for the past 18 months.
We are presently organising a a regular fortnightly walk along sections of the Retford to West Stockwith section of the canal covering a SSSI section, to monitor and record all we see, be it amphibians, reptiles, mammals, fish, insects including butterflies and moths, and canal side plants and vegetation, and aquatic plants etc.
We are currently checking out previously known sett sites adjacent to the east section of the Chesterfield Canal.
We are currently checking out previously known colony sites along the banks of the east section of the Chesterfield Canal.
We have started to carry out fortnightly recording of butterfly and day flying moths along sections of the east section of the Chesterfield Canal.
We are undertaking occasional mammal tracking assignments in various locations.
Three local members are attending a short course run by the Freshwater Habitats Trust on the 1st of April.
Some members are attending a Beginners bat detector workshop run by the notts bat group on May the 19th. Any members wishing to attend who have not enrolled yet should do so via the website:
We will be reporting our species records and other facts here in due course.
