Nature Reserve Wanted
The North Nottingham BNA Group are keen to be put in touch with a landowner, farmer or anyone who has a few acres of unused land or woodland preferably with a pond or stream in it, who would be pleased to allow access to it by a small group of amateur naturalists. We would like to be allowed to monitor and record the fauna and flora of the said property or plot, which is preferably not accessible to the general public. The idea would be to establish such as a small private nature reserve with access restricted to the land owner and our researchers. We are sadly aware that most local nature reserves are ruined by the permitted access of dog walkers who take little responsibility for their charges and those who see such reserves as high speed cycle tracks and other noisy outdoor pursuits.
The size of such is unimportant, for instance a pond on a farm with some cover surrounding it ,would be of sufficient diversity to allow us to study the pond life and surrounding fauna and flora. We believe there is a need for the establishment of nature reserves that are wholly looked after by small groups of amateur and professional naturalists alongside their landowners, reserves which are never allowed to be the preserve of dog walkers and the like.
